Dashboard Feature Enhancement

Project Scope

Creating insightful dashboards that drive specific outcomes is crucial, but it can be time-consuming and complex. To address this, our Product Trio introduced a Dashboard Theme feature. These enhancements help users quickly start their analysis, make more informed decisions, and save valuable time in the process.
As a UX writer on the team, my responsibilities included:
Creating Template Names: I developed intuitive and descriptive names for the dashboard templates. These names were designed to be easily understood and aligned with the specific outcomes for PR professionals.
User Testing and Refinement: I conducted user testing sessions to validate and refine the template name concepts. Feedback from users helped identify any confusion or lack of clarity, allowing me to make necessary adjustments to ensure the names were effective and user-friendly.
Copy Refinement: During the template selection and dashboard creation process, I refined the copy to ensure it was clear, concise, and aligned with the users’ needs. This involved crafting instructional text, tips, and descriptions that guided users through the process seamlessly.
Consistency in Style and Tone: I ensured that the style, voice, and tone of the copy were consistent throughout the feature enhancements. This included maintaining a professional yet approachable tone that resonated with our users and adhered to our brand guidelines.
Challenge
Users often face the challenge of building dashboards from scratch within Muck Rack’s platform, which can be overwhelming and tedious. The process involves manually selecting widgets and configuring them to align with specific goals, leading to inefficiencies and potential misalignment with desired outcomes.
Solution
Dashboard Templates: When users start creating a new dashboard, they can now select a template that closely aligns with their reporting needs. These templates provide a structured, pre-configured starting point, ensuring that the dashboard is tailored to specific objectives from the beginning.
- Pre-configured Widgets: Upon selecting a template, the dashboard automatically populates with a set of contextually relevant widgets. This eliminates the need for manual widget selection and configuration, making the dashboard creation process more streamlined and intuitive.
- Multiple Widgets and Data Sources: Users can add multiple widgets and data sources simultaneously, auto-populating widgets using data from previously configured sources.
Impact
The introduction of Dashboard Themes solves several key problems:
- Time Savings: By providing predefined templates and widgets, users can start with a structured guide, significantly reducing the time spent on creating dashboards.
- Improved Relevance: Templates aligned with specific outcomes or areas of interest ensure that dashboards are tailored to users’ goals, enhancing the quality and relevance of insights.
- Enhanced Productivity: Bulk editing capabilities allow users to efficiently customize and update their dashboards, streamlining workflows and boosting productivity.
